HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINDOW

Important: When measuring your windows, always use a rigid rule for greater accuracy.

MEASURING FOR CURTAINS

MEASURING FOR A PELMET

MEASURING FOR A BLIND

These instructions on how to measure your windows are meant as guidelines to help you.
Please contact us if you are still uncertain.

MEASURING FOR CURTAINS

To measure the curtain width :

If you already have a pole or track in place,

• Measure the width of the track or pole, not the width of the window (see diagram 1, A to B)

• If the track overlaps in the centre, measure the full width of the track, plus the overlap. (see diagram 2, A to B plus C to D)

If no hardware is in place,

• Measure the width of the window and add 15% to each side for curtain stack back. (see diagram 3, A to B plus 30%)

To measure the curtain length :

If you already have a pole or track in place,

• Measure from the eye of the curtain glider (see diagram 4, A to B), or eye of the little ring on the underside of the pole ring (see diagram 5, A to B), to where you want your curtain to finish (see diagram 6).

• If you are using a track, add the depth of the track to this (see diagram 4, A to C).

• If you want floor length curtains, allow for the curtain to just clear the floor, by say 1cm.

• If measuring for eyelet headed curtains, measure from the top edge of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish (see diagram 7). We will then add an upstand to this measurement.

If no hardware is in place,

• Decide where pole or track is to be sited, usually 10cm-15cm above window frame, and measure from this point to where your curtains are to finish.

MEASURING FOR A PELMET

You will need a wooden board (usually 6” deep x 1” thick) in place above the window.

• Measure the front edge and both sides of the board to give us the full width (see diagram 8, A plus B plus B).

• Then decide on the depth you would like the pelmet. Usually this is one fifth or one sixth of the curtain length.

• Measure from the top of the board, to where you would like the pelmet to finish.

MEASURING FOR A BLIND

If your window is recessed, the blind can be made either to fit snugly within the recess or to fit outside the recess.

If going inside a window recess (see diagram 9):

• Check for obstructions to the drop of the blind, i.e. tiles, plugs

• Measure from side to side (diagram 9, A to B) and top to bottom (diagram 9, C to D) of the recess. Measure in several places in case of uneven surfaces.

Ensure that we are made aware that you are giving us recess measurements.

If going outside the window recess (see diagram 10):

• Measure as for curtains, allowing 2” – 3” (roughly 5-8cm) either side of the window (diagram 10, A to B), and the same above the window (diagram 10, C to D).
